AMONG the headlines for Monday, August 16, 2021, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin resigned after a meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
According to a statement from the palace, Muhyiddin will serve in a caretaker capacity until a new leader is found.
The King accepted Muhyiddin’s resignation and said holding a fresh election is not the best option, the statement said.
Also, panicked mobs swarmed Kabul International Airport, as hundreds try frantically to flee the besieged Afghan capital as Taliban forces move in.
Thousands of people can be seen on the tarmac at the airport as more crowds jammed inside the terminal in a desperate exodus after the Taliban fighters take over the city.
