Police are not interfering in MACC investigation, IGP says

He said this in light of the recent raids and arrests of several Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) officers in the last few weeks.

He also denied that the police were interfering with MACC’s investigation.

“The police are clear on its direction in the probe into the case where government official documents and banking documents were leaked and manipulated by certain quarters with the intention to disrupt national stability," Khalid said in a statement today.

He said some media had reported that police had conducted the raids and arrests based on orders by certain quarters and are seen as disrupting MACC’s investigation.

“I would like to clarify here that the police are only carrying out their duties and are not acting based on pressure or orders from anybody,” he said.

He said the police’s investigation reports will be submitted to the Attorney-General for further action.

“The public must understand that each government agencies has its own role and responsibilities in any investigations but it will always be in line with its original aim, that is to find the truth,” he said.

Khalid also warned any parties from trying to create problem in the current situation.

“Give room and opportunity to the agencies involved for them to do their jobs without any interference from anyone with their own agenda,” he said.

Last week, police detained MACC advisor Tan Sri Datuk Rashpal Singh; Attorney-General’s Chambers finance and anti-money laundering secretariat member Jessica Gurmeet Kaur and MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi to assist in investigation following several police reports made against Sarawak Report editor, Clare Rewcastle Brown.

They were released on the same day.

Yesterday, two MACC officers were detained after giving their statements at the Putrajaya police headquarters.

Both individuals were then brought to the MACC headquarters as the police wanted to conduct a search on some documents.
