Tawau police today arrested a foreign woman who is believed to have stripped naked at the top of Mount Kinabalu, Southeast Asia's highest peak, on May 30.
Acting Police chief Supt Keong Ho Eng, when contacted, said the woman was held at the Tawau airport this afternoon when about to leave for Kuala Lumpur.
He declined to elaborate.
On May 30, a group of foreign tourists stripped naked on the peak of Mount Kinabalu, which stands at 4,101 metres.
The act angered the people of Sabah, particularly the residents of Kundasang, as it was deemed disrespectful of the local culture.
The indigenous people of Sabah believe that the act had angered the spirit of the mountain and that was the reason for the earthquake that occurred last Friday, claiming the lives of 16 people. Two people are missing.
