Police arrest four, seize computers, laptops worth RM70,000

Police detained four men including a Bangladeshi to facilitate an investigation on the theft of computers and laptops at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Desa Murni, Sungai Dua, here recently.
Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district acting police chief Supt Abdul Aziz Daud said based on information and intelligence, a team from the SPU Serious Crime Investigation Division arrested three local men, aged 16, 17 and 23, in Kepala Batas, Seri Pinang and Sungai Dua on Sept 18.
"Following the arrest, the police detained a Bangladeshi, aged 50, in Butterworth and seized 26 units of laptops, five units of computer monitors, three units of CPU, two units of projectors, four units of cable wires, four units of keyboards and a mouse.
"The seized items, worth more than RM70,000, were kept in the Bangladeshi's home and based on investigation he bought the stolen computers from the three men," he said in a press conference, here today.
He said the trio, including two school leavers, had broke into the school's laboratory and teachers' room three times during the night, from July 31 to Aug 18 to steal the computers.
He said the 23-year-old suspect used to work as a security guard at the school.
The four suspects are being remanded for 14 days to facilitate investigations under Section 414 of the Penal Code.
