Police have arrested a 35 year-old man for slashing his brother-in-law with a parang in a house in Kg Permatang Pauh here, today.
They also seized a parang believed used by the suspect, who is believed to be mentally ill.
Pekan district police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said the suspect was twice admitted to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA), Kuantan for mental treatment.
"Earlier, at noon, the suspect was said to be upset upon seeing his sister being scolded by his brother-in-law Roslan Abdullah, 40.
Angry with what he saw, the suspect suddenly slashed Roslan with a parang.
"Roslan who suffered serious injuries ran to a neighbour's house for help. He was rushed to Pekan Hospital for treatment," he told reporters here, today.
Yahaya said before the incident, Roslan was believed to be arguing with his wife when the suspect approached them to stop fighting.
When his plea was ignored, the suspect became angry and went into a room to take a parang and slashed Roslan in front of his wife.
"Roslan had to be rushed to HTAA for treatment as he lost a lot of blood and was reported to be unconscious."
He received more than 20 stitches for injuries on his head, body and arms.
The suspect is being remanded at Pekan police headquarters to aid investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
