Police arrested two men and seized an imitation pistol with 19 bullets at Kampung Cempaka, Likas yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu City Police chief, ACP M.Chandra said both men, aged 28 and 38, were arrested in a car at about 7.52am by a Task Force from the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters.
"Also found in the car was an official vest that belonged to an enforcement agency. Further investigations revealed that the gun was purchased online for RM250. The motive for possessing the fake gun is being investigated," he said in a statement.
One of the suspects who had previous criminal records including burglary and drug cases, had been jailed twice for the offences, he said.
Both men have been remanded for four days starting today and the case is being investigated under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possession of imitation firearms.
