The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) is aware of the existence of two North Korea-linked companies reportedly operating an arms business in Malaysia.
However, both the companies are in the process of being struck off, said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
The first is International Global System Sdn Bhd, registered in 2005, with its nature of business stated as multimedia and electronics and general trading.
The second is International Golden Services Sdn Bhd, registered in 2012, with its nature of business stated as information technology and telecommunication technology products, as well as solutions providers.
"The RMP is constantly monitoring and taking pre-emptive measures to ensure that Malaysia is not being used to carry out any activities that would be detrimental to national security.
"We have also taken all necessary actions to comply with international regulations with regards to related sanctions," Khalid said in a statement today.
According to a Reuters report yesterday, a military equipment company called Glocom has its office in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, behind an unmarked door on the second floor of a rundown building.
It said Glocom is a front company run by North Korean intelligence agents that sells battlefield radio equipment in violation of United Nations (UN) sanctions, according to a UN report drafted for the Security Council seen by Reuters.
Khalid said it has been established by the source of the report that no company by the name of Glocom, exists in Malaysia.
However, it stated that the website of glocom.com.my was registered in 2009, by an entity called international global system.
A similarly named company, international golden services was listed as the contact point on the website.
These two companies are said to be controlled by North Korean shareholders and directors.
