Police bust Malaysia's first ketamine drug lab

A ketamine drug lab located in a luxury condominium in Taman Sri Hartamas was busted following the arrest of two men in Cheras on Friday.

Director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the bust was the first of its kind in the country.

“The suspects aged 44 and 51-years-old were arrested at Jalan Mutiara raya, Taman Mutiara Cheras and upon inspection of their vehicle (Myvi) we found three plastics containing ketamine, estimated to weigh 2.5kg in the vehicle’s bonnet.

“Upon inspection of the two bedroom unit on the fifth floor, we discovered and seized chemicals and drug processing tools. Apart from that a total cash worth over RM4,000 was also found,” said Noor Rashid during a press conference held at the Kuala Lumpur Police headquarters, today.

Police also seized packages and plastic containers which contained drugs believed to be ketamine estimated to weigh around 15.08 kg and 200 ecstasy pills.

The total drug bust was estimated to be worth RM727,000.

Preliminary investigation had found that both suspects who come from Sungai Petani, kedah had used the unit as a drug lab since October last year.

“They are involved in processing the drug and also distribution which is concentrated in the Klang Valley. It is also believed that they often head to Genting Highlands to distribute the drug,” said Noor Rashid.

It is believed that the ketamin drug is sold at a price of RM40,000 per kilogramme.

Both suspects had previously been arrested on charges of owning a deadly weapon.

They are currently under remand until Friday to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the 1952 Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the mandatory death sentence if found guilty.
