Police bust notorious dubbed 'Chai Gang'

Four men from the notorious robbery group called ‘Chai Gang’ were arrested and a revolver was seized by the Police.

The incident took place at 11.30pm last Saturday (Jan 5) after the public tip-off lead police to them at a housing estate in Kepong.

The recent spate of robbery in Sentul district had prompted police to take action.

Sentul district police chief, ACP Zakaria Pagan said the men were having dinner at a restaurant and police immediately apprehended them.

“Four men aged between 30 and 40 were arrested and when police checked on their Honda CR-V sports-utility vehicle (SUV), they found that it was full with several stolen loots like handphones, residential area’s access cards, handbags cameras and other items worth RM400,000,” said Zakaria.

Police also found a Revolver with two bullets on one of the suspects.

“Further investigation later brought the police to a location in Kepong area where they found three more cars like KIA Spectra, Perodua Myvi and BMW. All the vehicles including the Honda CR-V SUV are believe have been stolen and robbed in Bukit Sentosa, Serdang, Sungai Besi and Kampung Baru Subang since last year,” he said.

In Sentul district itself, police believed the gang had committed not more than 10 robbery cases.

Three of the suspects including the mastermind who known as Chia had previous criminal records involving robbery and they are also wanted by several districts for their crimes.

Chia also used to be detained under Restricted Residence Act and had been banished to other districts for several years before returned to Kepong last year.

The gang’s modus operandi is they will make a round in several housing estates and residential areas in Klang Valley to find their vulnerable target - either a house or a person.

Based from the three cases that they believed to committed, the suspects had strike on the victim in front of her house when the victim was just arrived home.

“They are not hesitating to use the gun when the victim is retaliating,” said Zakaria.

The suspects have been remanded until Thursday (Jan 10) for further investigation under Section Section 8(a) of Firearms Act 1960 for possession of a shotgun without valid ownership and usage of firearm licence at the material time and place.
