Jasin district police chief DSP Arshad Abu said police had called up the individuals, aged between four and 60.
Police have called up 15 witnesses to facilitate investigations into the discovery of a dead baby boy in a well in Kampung On Lok, Batang Melaka here last Sunday.
Jasin district police chief DSP Arshad Abu said police had called up the individuals, aged between four and 60, - comprising the parents of the newborn baby, family members and neighbours - until yesterday.
"Initially, only seven witnessed were called up to assist in the investigations but the numbers increased day to day in our bid to get evidence for the case. So far, the case is 60 per cent completed and police believe it will be solved soon," he told a press conference after attending the morning assembly at the Jasin district police headquarters here today.
Arshad also said police did not rule out that the six-day-old baby was still alive before being thrown into the six-metre deep well located behind the parents' house.
However, police were still waiting for the autopsy report by the Melaka Hospital, he added.
The body, wrapped in a white diaper cloth, was discovered by villagers and retrieved from the well at about 10.30pm by personnel from the Jasin Bistari Fire and Rescue Station.
