Police to compound organisers, participants of SSR protest

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will soon call up three individuals suspected to be the organisers and participants of the protest led by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) at Dataran Merdeka here today.

Dang Wang district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said they would be compounded for violating Article 10 Regulations and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) (National Recovery Plan) 2021 that prohibits assemblies.

He said 20 individuals were found gathering in the field at Dataran Merdeka carrying black flags and banners at about 2.55 pm.

"This group is led by SSR which is a coalition of political parties, namely Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (PEJUANG), Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

"They dispersed and left the venue at 3.10 pm," he said in a statement today.

He said the investigation was being carried out under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for assembling without notice to the police.
