Police confident of solving abducted DPP's case - IGP

The police are confident of solving the disappearance of prominent deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Anthony Kevin Morais soon based on several new leads.

This is based on footage obtained from closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) which showed the abduction of the deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division of the Attorney-General's Chambers early this month.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the footage showed that Morais' car was intercepted by another before he was dragged out of the vehicle and taken away.

"We will solve the case in the near future and we now have new clues," he said in a media statement issued after the International Maritime Bureau Meeting here today.

Commenting on the car which was found torched at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sungai Samak in Hilir Perak, which was believed to belong to Morais, he said investigations into that incident (burning of the car) were still being conducted.

Nevertheless, Khalid said there had so far, been no demand for ransom to secure Morais' release.

Earlier, Hilir Perak police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had said that police investigations did not find any evidence linking the vehicle to the missing DPP.

On Sept 4, Morais was last reported to have been seen leaving his apartment in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, driving a grey Proton Perdana bearing registration number WA 6264 Q.

He was en route to his office in Putrajaya when he was waylaid and abducted.
