Police continue to monitor militant activities in Terengganu
JAMSHAH: Police haven't detected any activities and elements supporting IS militants in Terengganu, but surveillance will continue.
The Terengganu police continues to monitor the public's activities to ensure they are not influenced by negative elements, which includes joining militant groups abroad.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said they also monitored the deviant teachings of Syiah as well as connections to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
He said they have not detected any such activities and elements supporting IS militants in Terengganu, but their surveillance will be ongoing.
"We will work with Bukit Aman on this, but so far we do not see any militant activities going on in the state," he told reporters here on Wednesday.
Previously, a former Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau student was charged in the Sessions Court for supporting the IS militant group last year.
Wan Mohammad Arif Wan Rokman, 23, from Setiu, Terengganu had allegedly committed the offence at 10.15pm on Dec 28, 2014, in front of entrance C15 at the KL International Airport (KLIA) where he was about to depart for Istanbul, Turkey on Turkish Airlines.
