Police cripples 'Bulldozer Gang'

Cheras police 'bulldozed' their way to cripple a gang of thieves dubbed the 'Bulldozer Gang', recovering stolen heavy machinery: two bulldozers and a road-roller.

In two operations under 'Ops Cantas Khas' last week, a police team detained four people, including a suspected secret society member, and recovered the heavy machineries worth about RM700,000.

The bulldozers and road-roller were among stolen heavy machineries which were found hidden under a bridge in Sungai Besi.

The suspects, aged between 31 and 44, have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into a spate of thefts at unguarded construction sites in the Klang Valley.

The police are now on the trail of five people, including the alleged mastermind, in connection with the thefts.

Cheras police chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh said in the first operation last Wednesday, a police team from 'Ops Cantas Khas' nabbed two men at a car park in a flat in Sungai Besi here.

From the duo, the police seized an assortment of tools used to break into heavy machinery, including several keys and a crow-bar.

"In a follow-up operation, the police detained two other accomplices in Serdang and Seri Kembangan, respectively, last Saturday.

"They led the police to the recovery of stolen heavy machinery under a bridge in Sungai Besi," he told reporters today.

Mohan said the police also seized a lorry which was rented for use in ferrying stolen heavy machinery to the site under the bridge while waiting for potential buyers.

He said the modus operandi of the gang, which was operating for the past six months, was to scout for heavy machinery at unguarded construction sites in the Klang Valley, which were not in operation.
