The police have denied news reports which went viral on the social media that a female tourist was raped or assaulted by tour guides on Pulau Tioman here.
Rompin police chief DSP Azli Mohd Noor said there had been no report on such an incident.
He said according to the false viral report, tour guides on the island targeted female tourists who wore sexy clothes to rape or assault them, especially those who came alone or with other female friends.
"The police have investigated the allegation and found it to be untrue. We take a serious view of the spread of such false news as it is clearly aimed at jeopardising the tourism economy and objectives of Visit Pahang Year 2017," he told Bernama when contacted here today.
