Police deny rumours of communal clashes on Malaysia Day
POLICE: Those responsible for spreading the rumours would be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) today denied rumours of communal violence during Malaysia Day celebrations, warning that those circulating the false message could be charge under the Sedition Act.
Its Corporate Communications head, Datin Asmawati Ahmad said the vicious message currently making rounds on social media also advised non-Malays to stock up their emergency food pantry and other necessities, in the light of supposed racial violence on September 16.
"PDRM would like to affirm that the massage is a baseless conjecture by irresponsible quarters, seeking to jeoparadise racial harmony and undermine public order," she said in a statement, here.
Asmawati warned that those responsible for spreading the rumours would be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 with regards to any act which have seditious tendencies and the improper use of network facilities and services.
