Police detain one fugitive, manhunt intensifies
Penang police detained one of the three convicts still on the run after escaping from the police on Monday, at an internet cafe in Berapit, Bukit Mertajam this morning.
Mohamad Khairulnizam Abdul Rani, 26, who had taken shelter at the internet cafe to escape the police dragnet was detained after a tip off from members of the public.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said based on information received, police raided the internet cafe at 1.15am, and nabbed the suspect.
"He was in the cafe to escape the police dragnet but his attempt failed when he was recognised by members of the public who informed the police," he told reporters here Sunday.
One of the convict, later identified as Khairulnizam, who was among nine who escaped from the police on Monday while being taken to the court in a police van, had abducted a teenager at 11pm, in Bukit Mertajam.
