Police disallow Sunday's "Save Selangor Assembly"
JAMAL: I have applied to the police as required under the Peaceful Assemblies Act 2012 but it is up to the police to carry out their duties.
Police are not allowing the holding of the 'Save Selangor Assembly' scheduled Sunday in front of a shopping centre in Ampang as it has not complied with the Peaceful Assemblies Act 2012.
Ampang police chief, ACP Khairuddin Daad said the organiser was adamant in going ahead with the assembly even though its permit was not approved.
"I am advising the people not to join the assembly as it has not obtained approval from police or the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
"However, I will station my personnel in several areas to control the situation and for the security of the people," he said when contacted by Bernama Saturday.
The assembly organiser, Malay Non-Governmental Organisations Coalition chairman, Datuk Jamal Md Yunos had earlier said it was scheduled on Oct 11 but was postponed to Oct 18 to fulfill the 10-day notice requirement under the Act.
Meanwhile, Jamal said the assembly would begin at 3pm tomorrow in front of a shopping complex in Ampang.
"I have applied to the police as required under the Peaceful Assemblies Act 2012 but it is up to the police to carry out their duties," he said when contacted by Bernama.
