Police, Home Ministry to collaborate on gun ownership process
The Police will work with the Home Ministry in processing the ownership of firearms following the robbery and murder of bank officer Norazita Abu Talib at Ambank's Subang Jaya branch last Wednesday. This has caused many to question the credibility of security companies.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said the process will include background checks on individuals applying to be a security guard with any security company.
"We will assist the Home Ministry to ensure that screenings or security checks are conducted on personnel dealing with firearms, especially the security force," Mohd Bakri said.
He explained, the police have yet to receive any request to place auxiliary police at all bank branches.
Selangor police are now on the hunt for the main suspect in the incident. As of Friday, police have arrested three other suspects believed to have connections with the main suspect.
At the same time, Mohd Bakri brushed off N. Surendran's comment that the latter would defend the security guard who had shot dead the Ambank officer, saying it was not a smart move.
"I view it as a stupid comment. We asked him to follow us to the ground and witness for himself the risks involved when facing a criminal and not simply give stupid comments," he added.
Based on reports from social media websites, N. Surendran said he is confident the security guard was under a lot of stress and therefore it is his duty to defend the suspect and even help him escape the gallows if he is found guilty of murder.
