A police inspector was charged in the Sessions Court here today with two counts of soliciting and receiving a bribe from a woman.
M. Krishnan, 33, who is based at South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) claimed trial to both charges.
On the first count, he allegedly asked for RM8,500 from the woman aged 21 as an inducement to reduce the five charges faced by her male companion aged 23, at South Klang IPD around 8.30pm on Jan 13, 2016.
On the second count, he alleged received RM7,000 from the same woman for the same purpose at South Klang IPD around 5.15pm on Jan 14, 2016.
The charges are under Section 16(a)(B) and Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission 2009, respectively, and punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act.
If convicted, the accused may face a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of up to five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
Judge Rozilah Salleh Hakim set April 3 for remention and RM24,000 as bail with one surety for both charges.
She further ordered Krishnan to report to the South Klang IPD at the end of every month and to surrender his passport to the court pending disposal of the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Hazirah Azeman appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent.
