Police inspector pleads not guilty to raping at police station
Mohd Hairul Zaidi Zainal, 33, was charged with using his position of authority to rape a factory worker, 19, at the Petaling police station.
A police inspector pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here Monday to a charge of raping a factory worker at a police station last year.
Mohd Hairul Zaidi Zainal, 33, was charged with using his position with authority to rape the 19-year-old girl at the investigating officer's office, on the third floor of the Petaling police station, in Brickfields here between 3am and 7am on Sept 17, 2014.
He is charged under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code which provides a maximum imprisonment for 30 years and also whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Tan Sew Ping did not request bail for the accused on grounds that the policeman could intimidate the witness in the case.
However, lawyer Nik Muammer Hurrie Mohamad Sukri, representing Mohd Hairul, requested for his client to be allowed bail saying that he (Mohd Haiirul) had never failed to report himself to the Brickfields police station since the past eight months despite being freed on police bail.
"My client is also married and has to support a wife, who is not working, two children aged three years and three-months, his parents and a younger sibling," he said.
Judge Zulqarnain Hassan then set bail at RM15,000 with two sureties. He also ordered Mohd Hairul to report himself at the Kajang police station every two weeks.
The court set June 5 for mention.
In the same court, a Bangladesh national, Abdul Monnan, 32, also pleaded not guilty to a rape charge.
He was charged with raping a local 43-year-old woman at an unnumbered house at Jalan Abdullah, Bangsar here, between 10.30pm last May 4 and 2.30am the following day.
Abdul Monnan also pleaded not guilty to causing hurt on the woman at the same place, time and date.
He was not allowed bail.
The court also set June 5 for mention.
