Police are looking for the individuals who stomped on the photographs of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at the Bersih 4 rally last weekend.
"Those with information on the individuals who stomped on the photographs should quickly pass them to police, so that we can act against them," Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters after
attending the 68th Marine Police Force Day, here, today.
He said stomping on the photographs of leaders was not part of Malaysian culture but was seen as an attempt to turn it into a culture by the organisers and participants of the rally.
He was commenting on the visuals of individuals stomping on the photographs of Najib and Abdul Hadi at the Bersih 4 rally which have gone viral.
Meanwhile, netizens have expressed their disappointment or condemned the action of the Bersih 4 participants via Facebook, describing it as immoral.
Facebook user, Kemboja Putih said stomping on the photographs of the prime minister and the PAS president was uncouth and deviated from the aim of the rally.
"What do the organisers say about this rudeness? Open your eyes, Malaysians, it is not what we want..Such gatherings only tarnish the image of the nation..SayNoToBersih," she said.
Shah Liya, on her part, urged the authorities to arrest the perpetrators of the act as a lesson to the public "because their motive is bad, that is why they stomped on the photographs".
Kenny Teoh said the gathering should have been held in a civilised manner.
"Even if we don't support the leaders, we should not step on their photographs. Be civil during the gathering, show to all that we are truly sincere in wanting change. Peace!" he said.
Police reports have also been lodged by numerous quarters on the incident.
