Police mount search for missing teen

The police have mounted an operation to locate teenager M. Jethendran who was reported missing after a workout at a gymnasium in Taman Desa, off Jalan Kelang Lama here last Friday.
Brickfields police chief ACP Muhd Azlee Abdullah said the operation was launched after the police distributed pictures of the 16-year-old to police stations nationwide, as well as the public.
"Following a police report by the victim's family on Jan 25, we launched an operation to find the boy.
"At the moment, the police have not obtained any lead," he told a media conference at the Brickfields police headquarters here today.
He said the case was classified as 'missing person', adding that the police were recording statements from several witnesses, including the victim's family members, to facilitate investigations.
Muhd Azlee said, according to the teenager's father, R. Mahatheven, 48, his son contacted him at 3.45pm on the day he disappeared, and even told his mother that he would be returning home by taxi.
When Jethendran failed to return home, his family contacted his cell phone, only to find it switched off.
The police chief urged those with information on the teenager's whereabouts to contact the Brickfields police headquarters at 03-90571086 or investigating officer, Inspector Rosnani Ramli at 017-2194171 or the nearest police station.
