Police brushed off allegations that they were biased in dealing with the case over a report lodged by UMNO Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the decision not to take action against the politician was made after taking into account the statements given by Khairul Azwan, also known as Azwan Bro.
"In this case (involving) Khairul Azwan, we have weighed in everything after reviewing his statements. So, we decided not to proceed with any action.
"It is okay if they (detractors) want to say anything. If I were to respond to comments like this, then I cannot do other things," he told reporters when met at the Aidilfitri gathering at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here today.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Rafizi Ramli was reported as saying that police were practising double standards and were biased when they did not take action against Khairul Azwan as the politician's police report was made based on assumptions and hearsay.
On July 26, Khairul Azwan had lodged a police report against several prominent individuals, alleging conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the Malaysian government.
On Tuesday, Khalid said police had stopped investigations in connection with the police report after investigations revealed that Khairul Azwan had acted based on assumptions and hearsay.
Speaking to the media in Petaling Jaya today, Khairul Azwan said it was his and UMNO Youth's duty to defend the leadership of Najib, who is also UMNO president.
On the police report, he said: "It is the right of the Malaysians to ask for help from the police if there is a threat."
