Police have obtained new clues on the whereabouts of two fugitives, Hamzani Harun, 37 and Hisham Abdul Rahman, 39, who still at large after escaping police custody on January 9.
Federal CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said police have received information from public on the sightings and the locations of the duo.
“We strongly believe they are still in Penang and the information given by the public has helped us to locate their whereabouts. However, we need to analyse the information first,” said Mohd Bakri.
He, however, declined to elaborate further.
“We have alerted our officers at the borders in order to make sure that both of them do not flee the country,” he said.
In the January 9 incident, nine detainees escaped police custody while being transported from the Penang Prison to the Butterworth court. The detainees hijacked the police van which they were travelling in.
Two of them were arrested near the police van which was found abandoned at Kampung Padang Chempedak, Tasek Gelugor while two others were shot dead while attempting to escape police at Kampung Padang Ibu in Bukit Mertajam.
The dead detainees were identified as Mohd Fairuz Adam, 31, also known as ‘Joe Mafia’ and Mohd Noor Mustafa, 28, a fellow gang member.
Three other suspects were arrested six days ago after police launched a manhunt.
