Police officers, DBKL personnel charged with graft

Two police officers and three Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcement officers were among the five individuals charged at the Sessions Court here today.

They were all charged under Section 16(a)(B) and Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting and accepting bribes.

The DBKL enforcement officers – Mohd Nasir Danuri, 45, Mohamad Rezuan Chan, 41, and Ja’afar Ibrahim, 57 – were jointly charged with two counts of soliciting RM1,000 and accepting RM500 from restaurant owner Chew Hian Tat, as an inducement to not take action against his restaurant for not having a valid business premise license.

They were alleged to have committed the offences at Restoran Suria Teh Tarik on October 22, 2012.

Mohd Nasir and Mohamad Rezuan face a third charge of accepting RM1,000 from Chew for the same purpose.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at the same restaurant on October 24, 2012.

All three pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Judge Rosbiahanin Arifin granted bail as much as RM20,000 for each of the accused with one surety and fixed November 13 for mention of the case.

Meanwhile Sergeant Shaharuddin Abd Shukor, 54, claimed trial to accepting RM300 from Harcharanjit Singh, as an endorsement to ensure investigations will be carried out based on a report made by Harcharanjit on November 1, 2013, at the Sentul district police headquarters.

Shahrudin pleaded not guilty to the charge. Rosbiahanin set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and set November 14 for mention of the case.

In another court, Lance Coperal Muhammad Nazruldin Chee Chau Vui, 34, claimed trial to accepting RM800 from Lanny Ong Boon, as an inducement to not take action against him for smuggling subsidised diesel.

Nazruldin allegedly committed the offence at a fast food restaurant in Taman Connaught on June 4, 2013. Nazruldin pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Judge Alaudin Ismail set bail at RM7,000 with one surety and set November 8 for mention of the case.

If found guilty, all the accused can be charged under Section 24 of the same act and face a jail term of not more than 20 years and fined not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
