Police to open investigation papers on Penang Chief Minister

Pulau Pinang police has opened investigation papers linked to the Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who has opposed the usage of the "Allah" verse does not apply to the Muslims in the state.

Chief State police, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said, investigation will be carried out under police inquiry.

“Police has only received one report and an investigation has been opened under police inquiry for investigation of the issue or issues pertaining to this Allah issue,” said Abdul Rahim.

He was speaking after the crime prevention operation at the George Town North East police headquarters, on Saturday.

Yesterday, Bukit Mertajam Umno division has urged the police to probe the Chief Minister under Sedition Act regarding the statement.

Umno Youth Chief Bukit Mertajam, Ifan Zaimi Mad Taha said Guan Eng’s statement contains seditious elements that could lead to dissatisfaction among the Muslims in Penang.

Guan Eng in a press conference on Friday reported that there is no ban imposed on non-Muslims in Penang to use the Allah verse.

This is due to the Islam Administration Enactment 2004 deemed not applicable to the non-Muslims.

Pulau Pinang DAP government said that it has never approved any law allowing the enactment to be executed on the non-Muslims residing there.

Guan Eng however said the use of the "Allah" verse is a non-issue among the Christians in Penang in most events as other languages including Mandarin, Tamil and English are used instead.

He was commenting on MCA central member, Datuk Ser Ti Lian Ker who has urged the PR-led state government to use their power to revoke the enactment of the respective states banning followers of other faiths particularly in Selangor and Pulau Pinang to use the Allah verse and other related words linked to the religion.
