The police have received several reports on the pollution of Sungai Buah from which water is drawn into the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant, and also allegations of the pollution having been caused by sabotage.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had begun an investigation into the matter.
"One of the sources of pollution is chemical from a tanker lorry that was involved in an accident," he told reporters after attending the 'Strategising Measures to Combat Serious Crime' programme organised by the police and the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation.
On Oct 29, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said an integrated investigation would be conducted as soon as possible to identify the source of the pollution.
Several Selangor residents experienced a disruption in water supply after the plant had to be closed following pollution of the two rivers.
Khalid also refuted a report that the Sibu police station in Sarawak was closed at night.
"Only the gates are locked for security reasons," he said.-- BERNAMA
