Police reject application for May 1 assembly
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman, said the rejection was due to the organiser's failure in presenting a letter of permission by the owners of the premise involved.
The police have rejected the application for a rally on May 1, 2017, in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow in conjunction with Labour Day.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman, said the rejection was due to the organiser's failure in presenting a letter of permission by the owners of the premise involved.
"They did not meet the requirements, which is getting permission from Lot 10 and City Hall. Therefore, the organiser should include a letter of authorization to carry out the assembly at the premise.
“For that reason, the police did not issue an approval,” said Mohd Sukri.
He also confirmed that the police have receive a notice from the organisers on the planned gathering on Tuesday.
A discussion with the organiser was also held.
The crowd was said to be planning a gathering in front of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) Kuala Lumpur train station before marching to Lot 10 in Bukit Bintang.
Should they continue with the rally, Mohd Sukri said the organisers can be charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
