The Magistrate's Court here today has approved the application by police to remand a 60-year old woman, believed to have abused a six-year old child .
Assistant Registrar Hairol Azhar Mohd Ishak allowed the suspect to be remanded seven days until Monday to make way for investigation to be carried out under section 31(1) (a) Children Act 2001.
The incident was recorded and the video recording went viral since yesterday.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Mohd Azlin Sadari confirmed receiving a report regarding the incident from a complainant, Nathan Danapal, who received a message containing a video clip of the incident.
It is believed the child had spilled some rice, causing the woman to lose her temper.
The suspect, who has been looking after the child since 2012, appeared to have hit the child with a wooden stick 30 times, apart from kicking and slapping her, causing injury to the child's hand.
It is believed that the child is not related to the suspect, but the woman has been babysitting her during her parents' absence.
