Police report lodged over authenticity of signatures in 'Mahathir Declaration'

The 'Anak Muda' Association of Kedah has lodged a police report seeking a probe into allegations of the disclosure of personal information and forged signatures over the 'Mahathir Declaration' last month.

Its chairman, Saiful Zamani Ahmad, said the police report, lodged at the Kota Setar Police headquarters, sought to summon members of the committee involved in the Mahathir Declaration for further investigation.

"This issue has raised doubts and fear among the people because many are worried about their personal information being sold to get signatures in support of the declaration, and there are some members of the association stating their concern, afraid their names were involved.

"Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself acknowledged the existence of more than 300,000 signatures and false names, so the police should investigate this immediately to ensure that personal information is not used without the consent of the individual himself," he told reporters after lodging the police report.

On May 26, a freelance computer programmer said he was involved in the transaction to sell the database of the nation's citizens to get 1.2 million signatures for the Mahathir Declaration initiative.

Azharuddin Othman, 30, reportedly claimed that he was offered RM5,000 to sell the database for the purpose of falsifying the signatures on the declaration which would be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
