Police to request extradition of suspects in kidnap-cum-murder of Bernard Then
Then, from Sarawak, was kidnapped by a group of armed men at a seafood restaurant in Sandakan, Sabah, last May 15.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will submit an application for extradition to the Philippine authorities for the extradition of two suspects in the kidnap-cum-murder of Malaysian citizen Bernard Then.
Inspector-General of Police a Polis Negara Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the application would be sent soon.
"I have verbally informed them (Philippine authorities) to bring the suspects to Malaysia," he told reporters after the wearing of rank to 21 senior police officers here today.
He said police would investigate from all aspects and bring the suspects to justice.
It was learnt that the two suspects, believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf group, were detained last Friday for the murder of the 39-year-old Malaysian engineer in the southern Philippines last Nov 17.
Then, from Sarawak, was kidnapped by a group of armed men at a seafood restaurant in Sandakan, Sabah, last May 15, together with the restaurant manager, Thein Nyuk Fun, 50.
However, Thien was released by the kidnappers last Nov 8.
In another development, Khalid confirmed of a kidnap attempt on an Iranian businessman.
"We have received the report and arrested a few suspects," he said, but declined to elaborate.
