Police to rescue another baby sold via syndicate
Police will rescue another baby who was sold by a syndicate selling babies and toddlers, which is operating actively in Penang, Kedah and Perak.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said police would retrieve the baby from a family which bought the baby through the syndicate.
He, however, declined to comment further saying the case was still being investigated.
"We have charged five people and we will charge some more people. The remand of all the suspects ends on January 30. We will submit the matter to the Penang Legal Unit for further instructions on more charges," he told a media conference, here, today.
Last Thursday, Penang police uncovered a syndicate selling babies and toddlers, after detaining 33 people and rescuing eight babies and a toddler.
Those detained in the operation since early December until this week, aged 23 to 52, and included a public servant in the National Registration Department and a doctor in the private sector.
Abdul Rahim said, police would get a court order to place all the babies and toddlers rescued with the Welfare Department.
On the escaped detainees in the Jan 7 incident, Abdul Rahim said, police were confident that the two still at large, Hamzani Harun, 37, and Hisham Abdul Rahman, 39, were inside the Kesan Gelugor Operation area.
