The police are reviewing footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera to identify the suspected mastermind behind the theft of a lorry laden with microchips here last Friday.
The theft of the microchips worth about RM5 million occurred outside an electronics factory at the Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone.
Penang police deputy chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said those linked to the theft had left Penang and gone into hiding.
"We will also work with police contingents from Perak, Kedah and nearby states to track down the suspects. On their part, the public can contact the police if they notice anything suspicious," he said.
Thaiveegan was speaking to reporters after attending the Barat Daya Voluntary Patrol Scheme, Rukun Tetangga, Voluntary Patrol Team and Voluntary Security Team Organisation Community Dialogue with the Penang police deputy chief here, Sunday night.
