Police yesterday seized seven firearms belonging to a Datuk who is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder of Miri PKR division secretary, Bill Kayong.

Sarawak CID chief, SAC Datuk Dev Kumar M.M. Sree Shunmugam said the seizure of a Glock pistol, a Ruger Ranch rifle (.233) and five shotguns were made in the operation from 10.40 am to noon at the Datuk's house, here.

"However, the firearms have no connection with the murder of Bill Kayong on June 21," he told a press conference at the Miri district police headquarters.

He said also seized were 623 bullets, including 206 shotgun bullets and a GFL 9MM Luger bullet.

Dev Kumar said the two pistols seized were owned by the Datuk for his own protection with the licences issued by police, while the shotguns were for auxiliary police use and the licences issued by the Miri District Office.

"The weapons were seized by us for security reason as the suspect has disappeared since last July 3, hence there is no ownership control over the weapons now."

He said police were also still waiting for information from Interpol on the latest location of the suspect who was believed to be still in Australia.

He also said that Sarawak police commissioner, Datuk Mazlan Mansor was in the process of revoking the licences for the Glock pistol and Ruger Ranch rifle.

"We will also be writing to the Miri District Office to revoke the licences for the five shotguns," he added.

On the shotgun used in the fatal shooting of Bill Kayong, he said police were still waiting for the results from the Forensic Department as it had no serial number to determine whether the shotgun was a homemade or an old one.
