Police on standby for verdict on Anwar's case

The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) are on standby for any eventuality on the day of the verdict for the final appeal in Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's case at the Federal Court in Putrajaya on Feb 10.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said: "I believe nothing will happen because I feel everyone is matured and will accept the court's decision."

He was speaking to reporters when commenting on the police preparations for that day, after launching the special edition of the RMP's toy cars by toy manufacturer Daisheng (M) Sdn Bhd here Friday.

In a separate development, Khalid said the police had not received any official confirmation from the Philippine Government over a Malaysian man who was believed to have been killed there recently.

According to reports by the Philippine media, the suspected terrorist and bomb expert, Zulkifli Hir or Marwan was killed in an operation during which about 50 Filipino police commandos died and 12 others injured.

The clash on Jan 25 occurred when Filipino police commandos were trying to detain Marwan during the operation in the town of Mamasapano which is controlled by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
