Police still tracking down suspects linked to wealthy businessman's kidnap

The police are still on the lookout for suspects in the kidnapping of a wealthy businessman who was released recently, with the investigations showing some positive developments.

Pahang CID chief Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said police believed the businessman was kidnapped by more than four people.

"The kidnappers are believed to be Malaysians, but I do not want to reveal our findings in detail as it could interfere with the investigations," he told reporters after a celebration in conjunction with the 209th Police Day at the Pahang SUKPA Indoor Stadium here, Friday.

On March 10, the local press reported that a businessman involved with supermarkets, real estate and construction was released 74 days after being kidnapped by a group of four men masquerading as policemen, at a hotel here in Indera Mahkota.

Meanwhile, Raja Shahrom said the police had arrested four men and a woman believed to be involved in a robbery at a jewellery shop in Mentakab, Temerloh, on Feb 27.

He said the suspects aged between 23 and 31 were arrested in separate raids on March, 22, 23 and 24 around Kuala Lumpur and Mentakab.

"We also found two motorcycles used by the suspects during the robbery which were left in Mentakab, with one of them reported stolen," he said, adding that police also recovered some jewellery during the raids.

He said the four men, one of whom was linked to a murder case in 2008 and another in a robbery in Klang, Selangor, were involved in the robbery, while the woman was believed to be a companion of one of them.
