Police to take over security at UM tomorrow
All entrances except the main gate will be closed beginning 4pm to ensure no outsiders enter the campus.
Police will be taking over the security of University Malaya (UM) beginning 7am tomorrow, reported online news portal The Malaysian Insider.
According to UM’s vice-chancellor of student affairs Prof Datuk Dr Rohana Yusof, police will be patrolling the campus and block outsiders from entering.
The move is believed to prevent Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from entering the campus to present his speech titled ‘40 years, from UM to prison’, scheduled to be held Dataran Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC) tomorrow.
Rohana said students are not allowed to be at the DTC or its vicinity, from 4pm onwards.
"The programme is a flagrant violation of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971. Any student who breaks the law will be suspended or expelled," Rohana was quoted by the newsportal.
All entrances except the main gate will be closed beginning 4pm to ensure no outsiders enter the campus.
Rohana said the programme is illegal as there was no approval for the event from the university management.
