Police thanked protestors although some conditions were violated
Kuala Lumpur police today thanked protestors on their tolerance and cooperation during the anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) rally, even though there were some who violated certain conditions.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said the situation went back to normal when protestors left around 5.30pm.
“The areas where they were protesting were under control. Though there were small incidents where there was some pushing involved, it was still under control,” he said in a statement.
However the police continued to implement security conditions at certain locations to ensure a safe environment.
He also advised protesters to not start creating chaos to disrupt the peace and security of the public at large.
On Wednesday, the police permitted organisers to have a peaceful rally after meeting with them four times and imposing certain conditions.
Some of the conditions were that children were not allowed and prohibition of any speakers or weapons during the rally.
Protesters were also not allowed to enter the field and podium at Dataran Merdeka as the area is undergoing upgrades.
However, based on observations, there were participants who violated the conditions by bringing their children and speakers.
Security personnels had allowed participants to gather but prevented protestors from entering the Dataran Merdeka area.
