Police on the trail of four car theft suspects
Four car theft suspects managed to escape from the police at Section 6, Cempaka Flats today.
Police fired two shots in the direction of the Proton Waja car which was used by the men in their 20s and 30s in the 3.45 pm incident.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said the four men had suddenly appeared at the D' Rimba area when two other car theft suspects were taken there to identify a Proton Wira car had been reported stolen at Kelana Jaya.
Speaking to reporters at the scene of the incident, Arjunaidi said police had given chase when they spotted the suspicious looking group in the car.
"We had to shoot as the suspects were driving recklessly and endangering pedestrians and other motorists. They almost knocked down a 50-year-old man and also grazed several cars," he said.
He said the shots hit the Waja's boot and rear windscreen causing it to skid out of control and crash into a flat resident's parked Proton Wira.
The men then got out of the car and ran in different directions around the flats, he added.
"We believe they're still in the area. The Proton Waja was found to be reported stolen in Ipoh," he said
