KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Police has opened an investigation paper against former Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas regarding allegation of defamation.
This was informed by the Head of the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Fadzil Ahmat, in a statement to the media on Wednesday.
He said the investigation paper was opened after police received a report from a former senior officer of the Attorney General's Chambers, Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, on Tuesday.
"A police report was received in Cyberjaya on February 2, 2021 under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamatory allegations.
"The police will call him (Tommy) as soon as possible to ensure that the investigation into this case can be carried out," he said.
Earlier, Mohamad Hanafiah lodged a police report regarding a book entitled 'My Story: Justice in the Wilderness' written by Tommy.
Among other things, he claimed that there were passages in the book that defamed and tarnished his image while he was still working as a senior government official.
