Police will not permit Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu - Deputy IGP

Police will not permit the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu scheduled to take place in the federal capital on Sept 16 for security reasons, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

He said so far the organisers had yet to make any applications on plans to hold the rally on Sept 16.

"Nevertheless the police will not permit the rally for security reasons," he told reporters after the Penang state awards investiture ceremony at Dewan Sri Pinang here today.

Noor Rashid was conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN) which carried the title 'Datuk Seri' in conjunction with Penang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

He said any rally being planned must have the permission of the premises owners in the area concerned and approval from the police.

Noor Rashid said if the rally failed to get a permit from the police, it was deemed illegal and action could be taken against any individuals for taking part.

"If the rally proceeds, the police will control and ensure they do not disturb or destroy property or people carrying out their daily activities in the area," he said adding that police would also take appropriate action.

He said 2,000 police personnel would be deployed to control the rally. Media reported that the Rakyat Bersatu rally was scheduled to take place on Sept 16 and Oct 10 in Bukit Bintang and Jalan Petaling.

The rally is a protest against the Bersih 4 rally which was said to have disturb business in Malay majority areas in the federal capital.
