Police will still act even if secret societies protected by politicians, VIPs

Although some secret societies are believed to receive support or protection from certain politicians or VIPs, the law enforcement authorities will not compromise with anyone involved in criminal activities.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said in this regard, secret society gangs should not think that they could enjoy immunity from law enforcement.

"We have seen how certain politicians voiced their support for criminals and condemning police action against these criminals. But they (criminals) are not untouchable, as we will continue to hunt them down. In fact, many have been arrested," he said when met at the Cats FM Hari Raya open house, here, on Sunday.

Also present were Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman and Radio Cats FM executive director Datin Hanifah Taib-Alsree.

Wan Junaidi said police authority would not be undermined even if the secret society gangs received the support of politicians as law enforcement was definitely on.

On another matter, Wan Junaidi said there were about 40,000 illegal immigrants still held at the detention depots throughout the country due to their being unaccepted by their country of origin as they did not possess any valid identification document.

"We expect the number of illegals to increase at the detention depots, especially with the 6P operation going on from today.

"If needed, we may open more temporary detention depots to place them there," he added.
