Policeman killed, wife injured in accident on North-South Expressway

Sergeant Major Gambaris Saingaw @ Watmin Saiman, who served as an outrider at the Taiping police headquarters (IPD) died on the spot.
A policeman was killed while his wife was injured after the sport utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving skidded and crashed into the road divider at KM256.4 (north-bound) of the North-South Expressway, here on Sunday evening.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief ACP Ahmad Termizi Abd Haq said Sergeant Major Gambaris Saingaw @ Watmin Saiman, 56, who served as an outrider at the Taiping police headquarters (IPD), died on the spot in the 5.10pm crash.
The victim's wife Nor Hayati Meor Mohamed, 58, who is a clerk at the Taiping IPD Criminal Investigation Department, sustained only minor injuries, he added.
"The incident occurred while they were travelling from Ipoh towards Taiping.
Upon reaching the the location, the Toyota SUV driven by the victim went out of control and skidded to the left side of the road.
"The SUV then overturned and crashed into the road divider. The crash occurred during rain and the road was slippery," he said.
The victim's body was sent to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital.
