Policeman remanded for 4 days for allegedly injuring teacher
A male teacher complained of a broken hand after being nabbed by police.
A policeman was remanded for four days to facilitate probe into the case of a teacher who claimed to have been injured in Lenggong on August 30.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani on the police constable at the Pengkalan Hulu Magistrate’s Court today.
Investigations into the case will be conducted under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing injury which carries a seven-year prison sentence if convicted.
The case surfaced after it went viral on social networking sites showing a male teacher complaining of a broken hand after being nabbed by police on suspicion of being a drug addict last week.
It also caused an uproar among various parties and netizens alike who expressed their horror with the treatment rendered to the teacher.
The victim claimed he was on his way home from school when he was chased by police who suspected he was riding on a stolen motorcycle.
He said he tried to escape for fear of being robbed because he was unaware the individuals chasing him were actually policemen.
He was later arrested and reportedly injured while being detained.
