KUALA LUMPUR:Political leaders are advised to be more mature in managing any political crisis that strikes.

ILHAM Centre Research Fellow, Associate Professor Dr Hamidin Abdul Hamid said the people were now tired due to prolonged political uncertainty which also triggered instability among them.

He said the Sabah State Election (PRN) was a reflection of the political crisis that has affected the well-being of the people.

"All these make the people very dissatisfied with the behaviour of politicians in the context of power struggles.

"So in this context, I think politicians should be mature and show a better solution in resolving the political crisis, and not necessarily through elections.

"This is because the tenets of the Constitution allow us to form a government, seeking stability without going through elections.

"Therefore, it is hoped that the maturity of politicians, especially the Malaysian political elites, will sit together to discuss and find the best solution to ensure the interests of the people are taken care of, especially when faced with COVID-19," he told Astro AWANI.

Commenting on the Batu Sapi by-election (PRK), Dr Hamidin said if the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) managed to defend the seat without a contest, it would give a clear picture of the current political maturity.

"So I want to see things like that at the Federal level. If a new alignment needs to be done, they have to do a new alignment.

"If they want new a leadership, discussions should be held between them without bringing the question to the streets.

"That, I think, is very important to ensure that the stability of the anxiety remains at this level and is not exacerbated with the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

He was commenting on the matter following the current political crisis, including the exchange of prime ministers and the alignment of political cooperation.
