More than 80 percent respondents have called for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to step down due to his failure in leading Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to victory in the 13th General Election (GE13).

In an online survey conducted by local press, The Edge, over 9000 respondents or more than 80 percent of them voted the PKR advisor to call it quits for not being able to conquer Putrajaya in GE13.

Less than 20 percent or about 2000 respondents voted for Anwar to continue leading PR to the next GE as the opposing quolition has gained more seats than the previous election.

The question posed by The Edge was “Pakatan Rakyat has failed to conquer Putrajaya in GE13. Should Anwar Ibrahim step down as leader?”

In the survey, about 81.33 percent voted “Yes, he should call it quits as he has made his pledge” whereas about 18.67 of them opposed the question by voting “No, he should continue to lead PR to the next GE as PR has won more seats than previous election”.

Prior to the recent election, Anwar on April had stated that he will back down from politics and pursue his passion for teaching if PR failed to form the Federal Government.

However, after failing to wrest Putrajaya, he soon made a declaration that he will “continue the fight to defend all Malaysians” as he claimed that the election was “faulty and fraudulent”.

On May 8, Anwar also held a rally where thousands of Malaysians, dressed in black, gathered to protest against the country's election results which they claim were tainted by fraud.

The gathering was held at Kelana Jaya stadium with protesters spilling out of the stadium area causing massive traffic gridlocks which lasted for hours.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang also insisted Anwar to continue leading being the Opposition Leader in Parliament despite PKR winning lesser seats than his party.

Lim said this was the consensus of the opposition's allies after DAP won 38 seats, PKR, 30 and PAS, 21, in GE13.
