SHAH ALAM: Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that he will declare Monday (Aug 14) a public holiday in the state if Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) win tomorrow's state election.
He said the election is an important event in the state's history that will determine the future of Selangor for the next five years.
"You have a choice between a coalition that will continue the success, excellence, and progress of the state and one that is only interested in using the state election to create political instability in the country and has no new ideas or plans for the state we love," he said.
Amirudin, who is also the Selangor PH chairman, said this in his special address to the people of Selangor, which was broadcast live on his official Facebook page.
He also pledged to implement five measures introduced under the "Kita Selangor" manifesto within 100 days of taking office.
They included providing RM1,000 in aid to 5,000 women to reduce their childcare costs and waiving assessment tax for low-cost homes and houses in villages.
In addition, he said 1,000 university students in Selangor will receive the "Kita Selangor" book voucher worth RM200; an increase in allowance for imam, bilal and siak; and an incentive of RM1,000 for 500 farmers and fishermen in the state.
On July 31, the PH-BN alliance launched the 'Kita Selangor' manifesto, offering five key pledges to the people of Selangor should they be chosen to lead the state for the next five years.
The key pledges are having a superior economy and quality education as catalysts for high-income employment opportunities; religion as a beacon and inspiration for a dignified life in Selangor; good and efficient government services; development that is sustainable, comfortable and livable; and Selangor being a compassionate state that defends the people's interests.
A total of 3,747,057 registered voters are eligible to vote for 56 members of the State Legislative Assembly from the 147 candidates contesting the Selangor state election, which takes place simultaneously with the polls in Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan tomorrow.
