Poor response from UEC holders to join govt service, says Sarawak Chinese Federation chief

Wee said the federation had approached the State Human Resource Unit (SHRU) after receiving general feedback that when government positions were advertised, the response from UEC holders or other Chinese school students was rather poor.

“If they do not apply, then there is not much of a pool to select from,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Hence, he said the federation together with SHRU will be organising a talk on state public sector recruitment, specially targeted at UEC holders or other Chinese school graduates, from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Oct 6 at the Kuching South City Council Auditorium.

He said in line with the COVID-19 standard operating procedure, the number of participants at the talk will be limited to 200.

“We encourage students, parents and teachers from all the various schools to come and attend the talk,” he said.

He said if the response to the talk is positive, similar events might be held in Sibu, Miri and Bintulu.

He said the federation had asked SHRU for the contact details of UEC holders in the public sector so that they could be asked to share their experience.
