SHAH ALAM: It was a buzz of activity at a popular shopping spot, here, today as large crowds thronging shops selling Raya clothes to prepare for the Aidilfitri celebration.
A Bernama check at several shops in Section 7, here, found that the area packed with shoppers who took the opportunity of today's Nuzul al-Quran public holiday to buy Raya clothes.
Raja Amiruddin Raja Mamat, 40, said he was excited to prepare for this year's Aidilfitri as he would celebrate it at his hometown in Kelantan.
"After muted Raya celebrations in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to spend more this year," said the civil servant.
Another shopper Siti Khadijah Awang, 34, said she took advantage of the public holiday today to buy Raya clothes for her nephew.
"As the country enters the transition to endemic phase, Aidilfitri this year will be a merrier and happier affair for me. All my siblings will gather at my mother's house in Sekinchan on the first day of Syawal," she said.
Meanwhile, Jakel Shah Alam director Mohamed Izani Mohamed Jakel said shoppers began flocking to the premises as early as 10.15am to buy Raya clothes at promotional prices.
He expected the number of shoppers to increase in the third and fourth weeks of Ramadan for last minute shopping.
Starvilion Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ajwad Khan Nasir Khan said the clothing centre received an unexpected number of visitors today.
"It is a totally different atmophere compared with two to three years ago. Therefore, we decided to extend our operation hours to 1am," he said.
